I publish rants to The Rogue's Gallery and history stories to History of Yesterday. Mostly I'm just self-publishing. I don't like the wait time and the hoops some publications want me to jump through. I'm anxious to get stuff out there.
That has totally been me, too. Too impatient to wait, so I publish to History of Yesterday and The Partnered Pen. Plus my growing little pub. I think I might poke around to see if I can find a good litle pub that caters to unsolved mysteries. That might be fun, too.
My go-to Medium publication is Crow's Feet. Turnaround time is reasonable, at least it has been for me. I'm affiliated with a few Medium publications because my stories through other publications seem to always do better than when I self-publish. I haven't had to jump through many hoops, but I'm not a daily writer. Well, I'm not even a weekly writer right now ;-)
Not into the bubbly-bath thing but a hot tub and a wine cooler are magnificent end-of-day therapy. My submissions are rare these days just because it nearly always turns into a extended hassle. I find I am more interested spending my limited time in writing rather than publishing. That said, I have two works that will be press-ready before year's end and likely will choose the self publication route again. For my purposes it has worked satisfactorily in the past. Of course, an email or phone call could always change all that.
I love relaxing in a good bath so could relate to your analogy. I hear ya about the big publications and response rate. I publish in a couple of different places depending on the content. Write Under the Moon is a new pub that has a great vibe. https://medium.com/write-under-the-moon
Thanks, Tree. I'll check that one out, too. I knew if I asked there's be suggestions for me to look at. All the suggestions so far are publications I've never heard of, which is exactly what I was hoping for. :)
I haven't been writing quite as much as before, but when I do, there's a couple I really like. One is called Contemplate run by Susan Brearley, and Garden of Neuro. Only caveat for the GoN, is being a member for the women's only group, but I love it. No drama, and great company w/o catty B.S. if you're interested, let me know and I'll send you the link.:) Also run by Susan Brearley.
I'm not writing much at Medium anymore, preferring to build my Substack newsletter, but I still sift through stories to read and I still have my creative nonfiction publication, Indelible Ink. You could take a look. I also like Crow's Feet, and I'm sorry PSILY is gone. A shame.

Denise, same story for me. I mostly self publish in my own pubs and I don't think it's hurting me.
Is the "peon" you referred to (lol) doing the same? Just curious.

Thanks, Marie, I'll go check it out.

It's like a wine cooler for the bath. No bubbles. Just a giant fizz that colors and scents the water. Hope your publishing goes well.
