Happy Friday,
Years ago, I used to buy a bath bomb called “Waving, not drowning.” It was lovely. I’d drop it in the bath and it would fizz like a fifth grade science experiment and then the entire bath smelled like bathing in some secret, hidden Laguna.
Lavender and cardamom, and vaguely wild and jungle-y. It was relaxing.
The opposite of waving, not drowning (of course) is drowning, not waving.
Which is apropos to my current frustration.
Got a minute?
If you write on Medium, I could use an opinion.
First, the good news…
If history was a Hollywood movie, the editing room floor would be littered with the stories of women clipped to make room for men’s stories. No offense to men, that’s just how it was. I created History of Women to tell those stories.
I opened for submissions and we’ve pretty much doubled the readers in the past week, and I’ve added 36 new writers. So that’s the good news.
Now, the bad news…
Ever feel like you’re stuck in a rut? That’s kind of where I’m at. Seems I publish to the same 3 publications all the time and one doesn’t count because it’s my own. It feels like I’m stagnating, and I don’t like that. Not that anyone does. lol.
I’d like to branch out a little. Maybe even try some new topics.
Question is — what? And where?
One publication I joined sounded great, but it seems to be turning into a repository of “how to make money on Medium” posts, so scratch that. Back to the drawing board.
Have you found publications you love?
Preferably smallish ones that get decent response? I am so over the big publications that don’t get the response rate anymore, and take far too long to get published.
Basically, I’m looking for ideas. Inspiration. Feedback.
My well is dry and I’m thirsty. :)
Any and all suggestions and ideas welcome.
Both on topics and publications.
And thank you!
Did you miss these?
Thought for the day…

I publish rants to The Rogue's Gallery and history stories to History of Yesterday. Mostly I'm just self-publishing. I don't like the wait time and the hoops some publications want me to jump through. I'm anxious to get stuff out there.
My go-to Medium publication is Crow's Feet. Turnaround time is reasonable, at least it has been for me. I'm affiliated with a few Medium publications because my stories through other publications seem to always do better than when I self-publish. I haven't had to jump through many hoops, but I'm not a daily writer. Well, I'm not even a weekly writer right now ;-)
