Ethics matter. Photography takes just as long to do well and the picture is etched into memory. Good in you , Linda!

Thank you, Margie. It's what an I'd want people to do if it was my work getting taken without credit. We creatives need to take care of each other.

I have found that Illumination has grown so bit that it's now like the other big ones. Stories sink really fast and it doesn't help the stats at all. Just my experience. However, I do like how quickly they publish, I'll give them that.

One of the things I noticed is that some writers publish first, then submit. And that's okay, but when published it falls onto the page by publish date/time. When people submit drafts not published stories, they at least stay at the top of the page for a while. But yeah - that's always the downfall of really big and active pubs. Content scrolls away faster. I know they're trying some twitter stuff to try drive more traffic to their writers. So much learning curve.

Loved the story. Glad to know I’m not the the only one who clicks the “submit” button only to learn if was the “publish” one. In your case it became a happy mistake. Yeah!

Glad to know it's not just me, too. When I make a silly mistake, I always wonder if anyone else makes that mistake. Also silly, because there's no unique mistakes, I don't think. Thanks for leaving a comment, I love these conversations. :)

Congratulations on your editorship and the dumb luck. I hope your story does well. I've had a couple of stories in big publications but, in my case, they got lost in the sauce. BTW, my newsletter launch went really well. Thanks for turning me on to Substack.

Thanks! So far, it's slower than usual. But one thing I learned is that familiarity is key. The readers at my usual pub are familiar with me. The new pub, not so much. So if I try to submit regularly enough to develop familiarity over there, it should pick up traction. In theory, anyway. Now the test begins. You're very welcome - Substack is great, isn't it?!

Another interesting article, Linda. I'm happy to have you as an editor on Illumination. I'm already a writer there and will try to post my best work for you to read. Thanks for posting this.

I don't worry about yours one bit, Tom. I haven't seen you come into the feed when I'm on, but I work strange hours. I try pick up the ones no one else wants. Bonus is that the flexibility works great for me. Thank you, too. I'm learning that I can always count on you to show up with something good to say. That's appreciated. I swear I have all the best people right here.

Thanks, Gina. If you ever decide to give Medium a whirl again, come over to Illumination. And tag me on your stories so I can give you a little boost and a share. You're right that everything works in circles - kind of nice when we get to see that working for something good. You know?
