I'm glad Medium found & could resolve the issue, but IMO it raises more questions than answers. And I know a lot of those can't be answered publicly, but still....
One of my first ones- and this is really just me wondering aloud- is if they know how much any given author was deprived of, and if so, are there plans to compensate them?
That's a very valid question and one I've wondered, as well. The worst part is that I hesitate to ask because we live in a world where sh*t isn't supposed to roll uphill.
I only say the authors are leaving because I signed up for Shannon Ashley and Zane Dickens here on Substack and they both made it clear they quit the big M.
Well that's weird. Shannon's last post was 2 days ago. I don't follow Zane so I looked him up and saw a post welcoming a new writer to his pub just a few hours ago. A lot of people are disgruntled with Medium and maybe that's what you're seeing?
I follow a lot of Canadian writers :) I'm in Wisconsin, so the border isn't that far away. When I lived in Peru, people never believed I was American because I spoke Spanish. When I said, "Well, I'm basically Canadian" then they accepted it. However, I didn't know that Canada celebrated Thanksgiving in October. In any case, Happy Thanksgiving!
If I didn't know better, I'd have thought you're Canadian. Guess it's cause you grew up in the same sort of place lots of Canadians did. When I read your stories, I'm nodding along. lol. Since you already said you're basically Canadian, maybe some pie on Monday? Thanks, Walter. :)
OMG, thank you big time for the info on the snafu at Medium. My earnings and reads have dropped off a cliff since the end of September -- and now I'm feeling much less self-blamey. Also, thank you for pointing me towards "The Door" :-)
Mine too, and I was a bit self-blamey too. Figured maybe I was just off my game for a while, but maybe not as it turns out. Hope you enjoy the piece, I sure did. :)
Why is it Medium has so many problems with tracking their authors' audiences and paying their authors fairly? If they didn't have those things, they wouldn't be losing their authors.
Size attracts problems. I have a client whose business has grown enough that now they're getting credit card scammers and we have to be sure every order is legit so we don't ship product to credit card thieves who don't really want the item, just want to test if the card is valid before they sell it. Medium is big enough to draw the types of people who create technical problems. It sucks, but that's how it goes.

(Waves hello from Madison)
Wisconsin or SK? Not that they're terribly different, I'd think. lol
Wisconsin. And it definitely feels like fall here today!
Nice! What part (if you're comfortable sharing)?
Monona!

Happy Thanksgiving Linda!
Thank you for asking us to suggest articles for a boost - here is one that I thought was pretty amazing:

Thanks again for all that you do!
Thanks so much Yana. First one on my weekend reading list!
Happy Thanksgiving, Fellow Canadian.

P.S. Happy Thanksgiving, too. Hope it's not as cold there as it is here. Below zero this morning.
And happy Thanksgiving!!! I'm going to google Canada-Thanksgiving!
I'll definitely send writers/articles your way.
What on earth is systemized bulk engagement???
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating!
Thank you 😊
Happy Thanksgiving 🍁 So much to be grateful for!
I am a new writer and it's super helpful to read how to go about giving articles more exposure. Looking forward to learning more.
I sent a story weeks ago. Maybe 6 weeks. No idea if it was accepted for your new publication or not.
Letters From Jean.
Is there any way you can find it and let me know?
Hugs and thanks
Linda
Thanks Karen! :)
