Merry Christmas…
Calvin Coolidge said Christmas is not a day, but a state of mind. That feels especially poignant this year, as many of us spend the day a different way than Christmas Past.
There’s a new trend where I live. The freezers in grocery stores are still full of turkeys. People are having BBQ for Christmas dinner. Outside. In the snow.
Because we are in lockdown and we’re not permitted indoor company. Households only. No guests. But we can have 10 people at an outdoor gathering. So a lot of people are forgoing the turkey and trimmings and having a BBQ this Christmas.
Seems to me one of the most beautiful parts of humanity is resilience.
People outdoors in parkas and boots, scarves and mittens, eating burgers, hotdogs and sausage for Christmas. Turns out it was never about the food on the table — it was only ever about the people around it.
As I fire up my BBQ, I’ll be thinking of you. Whether you know it or not, you have been the most wonderful gift to me. You’ve kept me writing through the ups and downs and if that’s not a gift, I don’t know what is. Thank you for that.
Merry Christmas!

P.S. Remember the ornaments in the forest? I took pics. You can see them here.
