Your question about “a little bit famous” made this song go through my head. Over and over. Which is weird because I am not an Elton John fan. I checked out the lyrics and said...”I can’t send that in a substack comment, it’s too mushy”.

Then again if one looks at the words in general rather than specifically, maybe they are just a tribute to a good person, an excellent writer, a fellow human always trying to reach out to others with interesting and helpful bits of info.

Ok then. Here is a link to the lyrics in Elton’s song. https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/eltonjohn/yoursong.html

Happy weekend, everyone

Omg, Suz. You have a way of showing up with your arms full of sunshine. Let me tell you a funny story. I once built a website for a guy in India. He did meditation sessions and it was just a little local site. Honestly, I don't even remember the url. (ouch!) Anyway -- by the time we were done he said the funniest thing. He told me I have an interesting way of looking at the world and he wished he could read my hands. lol. Thank you so much for the sentiment in the second paragraph. ❤

On “finding you people,” I’ve been meditating on that phrase in the last few weeks.

The late Jack Welch (retired CEO of General Election as an FYI), in his book Winning (2005), speaks about “finding your people” in the workplace, especially early in one’s career. The fit between an organization’s culture and values of its employees makes all the difference in the world to a new employee’s job satisfaction and success in that organization.

For the past few months, I’ve been pondering whether I should remain a member of a church, where I found “my people” a few years before. Why ponder, you are thinking if the “fit” is right?

My relationship with the rector (Episcopal speak for pastor or priest) is toxic. As an employee, you need to put up with sh*t from time to time from bosses. FYI: I left an employment situation of almost 20 years, 21 years ago because of such toxicity.

As a volunteer on the church’s governing board, there is no reason to put up with stuff...so I am torn (having found my people), but know I need to decide soon whether to stay or leave as indecision is a source of stress!

Oh Linda, I'm sorry that's happening. It's hard when we find our people, but one person makes it so toxic we can't stay without personal detriment. I've been in that situation too. Wouldn't it be nice if the rector was magically whisked away and a new one appeared that wasn't that way? Not likely, but I'll wish for it on your behalf anyway.

Well, she went on a leave-of-absence 3 weeks ago and is still wreaking havoc (sadly). The PA Diocese is attempting to work something out to ameliorate the situation for all concerned parties. IF it’s not worked out soon, I’m going to bolt for my own mental health. Thanks for your concern-I appreciate it. Hope that spring is showing up in Canada!

I hope they sort it out before you have to bolt. Spring is slowly showing up, for sure. Yesterday we had a storm and the power was out for 3 hours. Guess that means it begins. lol

This happened to me yesterday. I misspelled Pulitzer. One of my readers (after clapping and making a positive comment) sent me a private message, too. This has happened to me a few times. Whether they do it discreetly or not, I'm always grateful because then I can go fix it.

You've probably seen the FB post where a block of text has a bunch of letters missing from the words, but most people can still read it. Our brains miraculously fill in the blanks for us, so we still understand what it says. When I wrote what I thought was Pulitzer, I Googled it to check the spelling and misspelled it anyway. When I proofread my story, my brain told me the word I was looking at was Pulitzer even though it was spelled "Pultizer."

I have seen that block of text. It made me laugh out the first time I saw it years ago. Thankfully my spelling isn't that bad, but wow I've made some good ones. I know a woman who is captain of the grammar police. She reads everything to highlight the mistakes. I am so glad that's not me. lol

I was a little bit famous for many years. There was a time I couldn't walk anywhere in Jamaica without random tourists walking up and saying, "Hey, you're the lady with the blog right?" I wrote a Jamaica destination blog for 10 years and it was kind of like the paparazzi were on my trail 😄 They all wanted photos to post on social media because they met the "Jamaica My Way" lady lol.

It was pretty cool. Even now, to this day the social media accounts for my old blog grow every single day and I haven't touched them for two years.

That's amazing, Kristi. It kind of goes to show, you know? Because so many people struggle so hard to grow their social media -- and yours are growing without touching them. Maybe growth comes from touching a nerve more than incessant promoting. You made me think, and that's always fun.

It was amazing. I retired the blog 2 years ago. But it does go to show that longevity in the game and expertise pays off.

Right? I hope you have a download for sale on the site. If it's going to continue to grow, might as well grow some greens, too. Or in our case, rainbows. Because our money isn't all green. lol

I don't have anything on the site except a goodbye page. But those 10 years have fueled my next project.

There was a time some years ago when I had a bunch of Hassidim working for me. I was berating myself over a mistake I had made when one of my workers came over to me and said, in a calm voice meant to soothe me, "If you don't want to make mistakes in life, don't get out of bed." From that day forward I found myself sleeping more and more and rising less and less. Go figure.
