Hi Denise. I did write all those stories! When I started on Medium, I'd made 4 different publications, one for every topic I write about. So I created the new one, moved all the articles over, and then deleted the old publications.
So yes, indeed, you can move articles from publications. But first, check to see the publication rules. Some ask for a time period (3 months, 6 months, etc) that you leave them in the pub. Some are really strict and remove writers if they take stories out.
Just be sure you won't alienate a publication you want to stay with, but yes you can sure move them. Just "edit" the story, click remove from publication -- then add it to the new one. Lots of work, but it's simple work.

I just got my invite to the beta but haven't clicked yet. So is it just on publications, or profile too? And where does the "short form" content factor in? Publication or profile? The help files don't say much.
