I feel the same way about the feeling of more equality now. Finally the people pouring and typing their hearts out have a shot at being noticed. And it's sort of fun to watch the old top paid writers complain now 😂😂

Right? I'm already a second class citizen because of gender, don't need more layers on top. Last sentence -- 😂back at you. lol

I never feel second class as a woman though. I believe we can position ourselves however we want and screw what anyone else thinks.

On Medium I do. Nowhere else. I've been a women in male dominated fields all my life and never had trouble kicking butt. The number of women among top writers at Medium is abysmal. I often say I should create a male pseudonym but who has time? Not me. I can barely keep up with one.

Interesting. My four favorite Medium writers are women. and you are on that small list.

I think you're right on that one. Women have a level up on some men. I won't be too mean, but we girls have a lonnnnng memory! Lol. We know how to use it to our advantage.;)

Thanks for filling us in on what's new/old with Medium. I've written in the past; life interrupted but I'm ready to dive in again. So your news is quite welcome - thanks!

On the wolf, Buddy, you might be interested in reading about the re-introduction of wolves into Yellowstone National Park, starting in 1995. I've read two books about that particular project and fell in love with wolves - what's not to love? Author is Rick McIntyre who became part of this project and a very steady wolf observer - his first book is about Wolf 8, a smaller gray (not black) wolf who turned out to be a fabulous alpha male and leader. Second is about his son Wolf 21 - I cried at the end of that book, reading about his solitary death.

Why should you read them? Learn about wolves, so much! And their families, connections, their hunts, the pups. I'm totally hooked on wolves now! And the story continues in Yellowstone! YAY! (BTW, the scientists gave them numbers to keep from anthropomorphizing them. But man are they hard not to love!)

I have indeed read about the Yellowstone project. I love wolves, too, and thanks so much for the book recommendations. Just ordered both. Did you see he has a new one this year? It won't be out until October, so I should have the first two read long before that.

On Medium -- it sure is welcome news. Good luck diving in. If you're not getting traction right away, tag me on a couple so I can read and share.

Loved both of the animal essays. Buddy seems as though he’s filled with joy. The unnamed Puma is just glorious.

Thanks Linda, now I have one read for sure. lol. ❤ Buddy surely IS filled with joy. And you're right -- the puma is just beautiful. Those eyes!! His name is Malcolm and he's depressed right now because he just lost his brother, who passed away of sudden heart failure.

I’m sure that you’ll have more than one read!

I’ve always had an affinity for the great cats. Some years ago, at a small zoo in Cape May, NJ, we saw a female puma with her litter of 6-month old kitties. They played just like domesticated felines, with mamma swiping her children a few times when they became too rambunctious. It was so much fun to watch.

My secret desire is to pet a tiger one day...

I don't know about "fair". It is debatable what fairness means, but I am definitely elated that you got the bonuses, rightfully so. The bonus payout system sounds like an experiment for them, who knows how long this will last. (And now I am going to expect more stories on bonuses, hacking bonuses, and comments for the sake of commenting. :P)

As for fairness, sometimes I wondered out of the $5 average fee, how much of that actually goes into paying metered articles. And for those who paid $50 annually, how is that calculated?

I wake up every other day, waiting to read your stories on Medium. LOL, I even milk my time intentionally, hoping a portion of my $5 will boost your earnings. haha.

Also, just too many self-help and stories on making money out from Medium is starting to annoy me. So stories and writers like yours KEEP me on Medium. Seems like Medium definitely has no way to gauge which writers are also "keeping" members, not just on "attracting" readers. Food for thought too.

It does feel more equitable now and I'm really happy to have received a bonus. I knew there were some paid publications and some paid writers but had no idea the extent of it. Guess you had to know someone who was willing to talk about it :) Thanks so much for sharing.
