Happy Friday…
Remember a few weeks ago, when it was January? How is it almost June, and where did all that time go?
Did you know the midpoint of the year is in 35 days?
From January first to July first is 182 days. From July third to Dec. 31 is 182 days. Which means July 2nd is the mid point of the year.
So, the midpoint of the year is 35 days away and I don’t know where almost half a year went. Back in January, I thought I’d have so much done by now.
I wanted to be finished the draft of my book/guide/course/whatever about marketing for writers who suck at marketing.
I thought I’d have my pre-built author sites up for sale by now.
I was dead sure I’d at least have the website for them up.
Nope, nope and nope again.
I’ve started. Dipped a toe in, But I haven’t made the progress I wanted to.
It’s not about time management. I wish it was.
Time seems the eternal trickster. It disappears in a puff of smoke and before you know it, half a year is gone. And before you know it, you’re 50 or 60 or 80 wondering what the heck happened.
I can tell you what happened. Life happened.
That’s why time management is such a hot topic. Which goes to show why I think so many self help gurus and guides are unhelpful at best and obtuse at worst.
Time isn’t the problem.
Priorities are. It’s not that we don’t have time. It’s that we use it on whatever has priority or seems to. Usually, the squeaky wheel.
And to be fair, to some degree, sometimes we have to. We have kids or jobs or other responsibilities that suck time like a kid with a milkshake.
But maybe we don’t make ourselves the priority often enough.
I know I’m guilty as charged. I got a lot done, little of it on the projects I wanted to do. No one sets out to live a life spent oiling the squeaky wheel, but so many of us do.
Life is funny
This morning I got an email from a guy who read one of my marketing articles. He asked if I’m interested in marketing and managing a couple of Gumroad projects. I was tempted to hit reply and say yes, but mine. lol.
First life throws a rock. Then it throws a brick. If you pay no mind, eventually it hits you with a truck. I’ll take that email as the rock.
Curious… how are you doing 35 days from the middle of the year?
