I’ve had no luck guilting my followers into doing anything.

LMAO Denise. I'm laughing so hard. I don't know the trick, either.

I searched for your letter twice this morning. It’s the highlight of my Fridays. YES! I missed it.

Sadly my crammed-packed day kept me from saying something.

Your letter hit a note for me—I'm about to send my manuscript to beta readers. Most recently, only half of the original group affirmed they were interested in proceeding. I guess it’s good that I know, but now I'm running with fewer people than I'd like. Yeah, it's tough out there.

Linda, please count on me for a review!

Thanks, Kerry. I heard there are sites out there where you can pay for professional reviews. Do you know anything about those? Curious if they're any good, but haven't done any research on them.

Yeah I’m aware of a couple sites. I’m not sure how I feel about them or how meaningful their reviews are.

I’m on TikTok these days. One influencer was thrilled to be asked and offered to make a TikTok video on the topic. I thought I’d approach a few more.

I’m also making a list of podcasters and other authors who have successful books in similar topics for a review and/or endorsement.

I’m excited. It will be nice to shift gears from the majority of my time spent writing to doing more marketing. Not that I’m not always building platform—that’s on-going and constant effort.:)

You are one of the few people I know who is excited about marketing. Have you ever thought of sharing your TikTok videos on Medium? I wonder how they'd do.

That’s a fascinating idea. My account on TikTok has totally taken off. I’ve gained 6000 followers the past 8 days. I’m doing a well-received series on narcissism. I’m curious how you’d envision the share. Hmmm… I could do a bit of writing to introduce a small series on one topic, like when and how to use the Gray Rock Technique— even include a personal backstory. Ohhhh…my brain is churning…

You know why I like marketing? First off, it’s a misnomer because it’s relationship building and I love to do that!!

Right you are. Too many people think it's about hawking stuff. It's not, it's about connections, not pitches. I bet you can use medium and tiktok to grow your following on both. :)

I love how honest everyone is here. Nope, didn't even notice. lol. Thanks for letting me know to dig into my inbox. It has been a black hole lately.

Hi, yup, noticed. Being in Europe and all, I've received your newsletter on Saturday, which was odd ;)

As for the substack statistics, my IT friend explained how substack keeps track of people reading the email - there is something like a 1px picture that is automatically downloaded with opening the email. That's how they keep track. As a different picture is assigned to different email, that's why some people show with multiple reads - they might have fwded your newsletter to others. But som people have, as a security measure, forbidden auto download of such things. They might still have read, but it won't show. The same goes for RSS feed, people who read you via that, might not show as reading it. I have checked it for his name as we talked about my last newsletter and his statistics showed that he opened 1 of 8. I am positive he opened all of the, he gave me feedback to each. So there you go :) the reading rate substack shows is an estimate of minimal numbers. Not sure about you, but this info did make me feel better about my reading rates ;) take care :)

My read rates are so good, it makes me feel really happy. Last week I had 100 more reads than subscribers. lol. But it's good to know that anyway for the times read rate is down. Glad you noticed! Are you having a heat wave where you are, too? So many places are.

I'm in Slovakia, it's about 30°C here, which is not that bad, but it's about to get hotter. Price for consumerism, I guess.

That's hot! We had a stretch of 35°C and higher, with no rain. Finally a little cooler today, only around 28°C. Price for fossil fuels, too, I guess. Now I can say I have a friend in Slovakia. That's the best!

Yes, I noticed that I didn't get a newsletter from your yesterday - simply assumed that you were busy. Life happens. Foobar? Some Canadian idiom? Some acronym for which I am unacquainted (at my age, that's very likely!).

I believe it's spelled fubar. It means broken or out of order. Not sure if it's Canadian or universal. lol

It has a military derivation: F***ed Up beyond all recognition. It is a cousin to SNAFU: Situation Normal All F***ed Up.

I feel you! My email stats are a little dismal but I'll tell you as soon as I'm offering a giveaway EVERYONE is suddenly interested. I've given away a particular book twice in the past year and neither winner has let me know what they thought of the book.

But whatever. Email isn't my strong point either.

The good part of freebies - everyone loves free. The bad part of freebies - everyone loves free. I'm sure everyone has noticed by now that I've never sold or pitched y'all anything. This list is people I can talk with and share my writing without the high pressure of selling. I do that enough ALL DAY in my work. lol

Guilty as charged, however, I do it a lot less than when I was in the corporate world. And I did not notice that your newsletter was not in my inbox Friday morning. That's two admissions in one morning!

lol, Michael. Well, at least I can count on you to be honest. Something in that, for sure.

Thanks, Kathryn. It's kind of heart warming to see replies roll in saying people did notice. I suppose I could have said nothing, but the responses have been a feel good so far.

Of course, I noticed! I look forward to your Friday post. If something is different, the first thing that pops into my head is that you're either experimenting or it's a Mach 10 with your hair on fire kind of day. ;)

Gah, it's was definitely a hair on fire kind of thing. It happens way more often than I would like. And it's summer, so I lose catch up time if I want to enjoy the nice weather.

Hey. I didnt know you were Canadian too. I'm in BC and the fires are still increasing in number. Drought too. You are bang on. We're the ones in trouble, not the planet.

I wasn't able to check my emails until Saturday AM. I did notice that it came later than usual, but of no concern, because life happens!
