Surprised to read about Branson. Saddened to. Especially surprised because he’s a member of the “Giving Pledge” group who have made a commitment to donate at least 50% of their estate to charity! It’s an exclusive club- you need to be a billionaire.
People are funny, aren't they. I guess he sees "his" wealth and the "company" as separate entities. Legally, they are. But staff having no pay during a pandemic is not okay, regardless of how the letter of the law defines a corporation. He could have said no, the people will not suffer.
I know, right? Honestly, I loved his book. Killer sense of humor. But when push comes to shove, someone with a net worth of 4 Billion telling staff they're not getting paid -- so not okay. I looked up to him. Not anymore. Hence, the title.
I want to write about the companies who are doing it right. Some of them surprise me. Taco Freaking Bell -- paying their staff full rate, as long as it takes. Who'da thunk.
And the ones who are throwing their staff overboard without a life raft. But that's going to be some kind of work to dig them up. Maybe I can make it a group post. lol.
When I ran to raise money for charity I noticed that the people with the least donated the most. I don't begrudge people for their wealth, although how they use it tells me everything I need to know.
Your mention of all the wealthy CEOs makes me think of celebrities who endorse fundraising efforts too. If every celebrity donated even 1% of their worth a lot of fundraising wouldn't need to happen.
Great article. Always KNEW Branson was not one of the good guys. The Corporations will come out of this richer and stronger than before - UNLESS we collectively (the world) do everything we can to get Bernie Sanders elected to the top gig in the USA.

Good to see you here Linda. :)
That one hit me hard.

Ugh, So disappointing. I thought Richard Branson was one of the good guys. Everyone shows their true colors at a time like this.

Same - for years I fund-raised for charities and found the same. People think money makes us corrupt. Nope. Money just reveals what we are.
^^^ BINGO

Right? I'm so with you on that.
