Happy Friday,
It started with Rivka’s story about a little girl wearing the wrong clothes and the realization that kids who wear the “right” clothes take for granted a safety that other kids are never going to have. I, too, was the kid in the wrong clothes.
Then there was Joe. Talking about people who are “so supportive” of mental health issues on social media, but let them see a homeless person with mental health issues at the gas station and it’s a totally different story.
Finally, the woman who wrote about a bunch of boys who pushed a girl onto the train tracks, but felt compelled to start her story by assuring men she knows they aren’t all like this. #notallmen. My comment was blunt, even by my standards.
It started there… something brewing…
Substack shout-outs — lol
Yesterday Substack sent an email saying the first “shoutout” post they did was so successful, they’re doing another. So I went to look. LMAO.
They invited people to post a comment and drop a link to their Substack newsletter. 611 people did. A long stream of links and self-promotion scrolling into oblivion. Not much interaction. Just a lot of link dropping.
And bam. Idea!
Want to be part of something fun?
I’m writing a post called “3 Things Worth Sharing”
Those stories I told you about? I’m going to give them a shoutout. I think that’s what a shoutout should be. Not dropping my link everywhere I can. lol
It gave me an idea.
I wonder what would happen if a bunch of posts with the same title started to sweep Medium. Writers sharing great stuff they stumbled across.
Could we start a trend?
So here’s the invitation…
—Write a post called “3 Things Worth Sharing.”
—Use “sharing” as one of the tags.
—Use “Three Things” as a second tag.
The remaining tags can be whatever you want. At the end of July, I’m going to look to see what we’ve done to those tags. :)
I’m going to do a “Three Things” post every week in July. See if we can start a trend.
Might be fun to see what happens!
:)
Here’s what I wrote this week…
I Wrote A Dystopian Fiction About Incels and Forced Marriage

Thought for the day…
If the book we’re reading doesn’t wake us up with a blow on the head, what are we reading it for?. —Franz Kafka, from a letter to Oskar Pollack, 1904

I DO want to be part of something fun!
While my new kitten “Hobbes” is investigating tonight from midnight-2am, I’ll do some reading to find 3 things worth sharing. Does it have to be something posted recently? I have some saved faves…Thanks Linda!
I love experiments! Great idea. Let the fun begin.
